Queen Victoria 1897 Royal Doulton Diamond Jubilee Throne Beaker

This beautiful beaker was made at the Royal Doulton Burslem factory in 1897 for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations,it is one of the most attractive pieces made for the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1897.

Known as "The Queen Victoria Throne Beaker" it is a must for any serious collector of Queen Victoria memorabilia.

The decoration shows a full length portrait of Queen Victoria seated on a throne holding the Sceptre and Orb and flanked by shields bearing the Royal Arms

On the reverse is the inscription:


Our beloved Sovereign and Most Gracious Majesty
By the Grace of God Queen of Great Britain and Ireland,
Empress of India.Was born the twenty-fourth day of
May in the year of Our Lord eighteen hundred and
nineteen.Ascending the Throne of England in the
year eighteen hundred and thirty seven,by the
continued blessing of The Most High she after
sixty years yet sitteth on the throne of her ancestors
and reigneth in the hearts of her beloved people
God Save the Queen

The dedication is surmounted by the Royal Coat-of-Arms flanked by the Royal Beasts,the lion and unicorn.The whole body of the beaker is decorated with an elaborate design of acanthus leaves and sprays of roses,thistles and shamrock,the British national floral emblems.

The beaker is just under 4" - 95mm tall and is in excellent condition, without any chips, cracks or age crazing.The base of the beaker has a lozenge cartouche with the inscription "Victoria RI - Diamond Jubilee - Doulton Burslem Rd.No.293419".

The beaker is illustrated and described on page 17 fig.43 & 44 of "Fifty Years of Royal Commemorative China 1887 - 1937" by M.H.Davey and D.J.Mannion.ISBN 0 9513489 0 6
