1937 Unusual George VI Coronation Mug

This unusual bulbous shaped mug was made by CWS at their Longton pottery .It was produced in 1937 for the Coronation of King George VI & Queen Elizabet (The Queen Mother)..

The design incorporates sepia portraits of the King and Queen set into oval beaded frames surmounted by The Imperial State Crown and flanked by the British and Commonwealth flags and set into sprays of the British floral emblems. Around the rim is a band of red and blue which combined with the white of the body are the British national colours.

The back of the mug has the Royal Cypher surmounted by the Imperial State Crown set into a laurel border.

The mug is 3 1/2" - 90mm tall. It is in excellent condition without any chips or cracks and only very minor age crazing.The CWS Longton backstamp is on the base.
