This very high quality and very collectable plate must rate as one of the most spectacular and colorful of all the commemoratives produced for this Coronation or any other.

This stunning plate has been extensively hand decorated and has a lobed outline and a lavishly gilded and moulded rim inscribed,"King George VI and Queen Elizabeth".At the bottom is the cypher of King George VI and the Coronation year - 1937.

The design by J.A.Robinson shows a Coat-of-Arms supported by the heraldic figures of the Lion and unicorn. The Coat of Arms shows on the left the Heraldic symbols for King George VI,which you would find on his Coat-of-Arms and on the right the heraldic symbols for the Queen Mothers Coat-of-Arms.The Queen Mother was of course Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon and her heraldic symbols are exactly what you would expect.

The 8 3/4" - 230mm diameter plate is the smaller of the two versions made for the Coronation, it is in excellent condition without any chips, cracks or crazing. On the reverse is the "By Appointment" Royal Warrant, indicating that Paragon are the official china makers to the King and Queen, together with the inscription, "A Perpetual Souvenir in Paragon China - To Commemorate the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth - Crowned Westminster Abbey May 12th 1937".

A full color picture of the George VI plate is on p.35 of "Four Generations of Royal Commemorative China" by MH Davey & DJ Mannion.
